FAQ

What are UTM parameters?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters are short text snippets appended to the end of a URL. They help tools like Google Analytics understand exactly where visitors come from (e.g. Facebook, newsletter, Google Ads) and which campaign they clicked.
Which parameters are mandatory?
In general you should use at least utm_source (source, e.g. google), utm_medium (medium, e.g. cpc) and utm_campaign (campaign name). Only then can Analytics assign the data meaningfully.
Do UTM parameters affect my SEO?
Indirectly yes. They create 'duplicate content', since the same page is reachable under different URLs. That's why it's extremely important that your page uses a correct canonical tag that points to the 'clean' URL (without parameters).
