FAQ

Why is an SSL certificate important?
An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between the user's browser and your server. Without SSL, modern browsers like Chrome mark your site as 'Not secure', which deters visitors and negatively affects the Google ranking.

What does this SSL checker check?
Our tool analyzes not only the expiry date, but checks the entire chain of trust, the issuer, supported protocols (e.g. TLS 1.3) and whether the certificate is issued correctly for the domain (SANs).

What are common SSL errors?
Common problems are mixed content (loading unencrypted resources), expired certificates or name mismatch (certificate doesn't apply to the subdomain).

What is the chain of trust?
The chain of trust is the chain of certificates that reaches from your server certificate to a trusted root certificate. If an intermediate certificate is missing, browsers can't verify the validity.
